Breast MRI Services in Savannah

The MRI machine.A magnetic resonance imaging [MRI] machine uses a powerful magnetic field, radio waves, and a computer to create detailed pictures of your breast to detect cancers and other abnormalities. MRI machines do not produce ionizing radiation. X-ray, computed tomography (CT or CAT), and the sun produce radiation.

Prior to undergoing any test or procedure: please tell your doctor about any health problems, recent surgeries, or allergies and whether there’s any possibility that you are pregnant. Particularly if undergoing a MRI, please tell a medical professional about any possible devices or metal in or on your body or if you are claustrophobic or do not feel comfortable in tight places. Breast MRI with and without contrast (also called contrast enhanced or dynamic breast MRI) detects the most cancers out of any imaging modality.

Breast MRI with [not in place of] mammography detects the most cancers. Breast MRI is useful for: determining extent of disease after a biopsy reveals a cancer diagnosis, a screening exam in high-risk patients, treatment response of breast cancer to systemic medications [like chemotherapy] prior to surgery, problem-solving mammographic and/or ultrasound findings or lack thereof, determining if silicone breast implants are ruptured.

Starting in January 2024, EBI will read all breast MRIs at American Health Imaging located at 30 Janet Dr. in Savannah.
